In describing part 3 of our Mission Statement last Sunday (“assisting the world through acts of love”), I made the point that Christians are socially active in their surrounding communities as a matter of course.  It is my belief that if good works don’t follow a Christian everywhere he or she goes, something is not connecting.

Most typically I believe these “good works” should take the form of Christian responses to relevant social issues of the day such as care for the environment, fighting drug abuse, creating alternatives to gang violence, and holistic care for deviant relational and sexual behaviors, which destroy individuals and families.

So why is Christian involvement in social issues doubted by so many secular persons and groups, as well as opposed by many Christians?  We Christians started practically every social justice movement in history, for crying out loud!  Your responses are most welcome…
